Friday announcement: book club

Sorry, I really failed with the alliteration here! On Tuesday on Twitter Chat we talked about books and films that don't trigger and I'll be honest we struggled with films but here's a list those we talked about:

Films

  • Calamity Jane
  • Little Women
  • Moulin Rouge
  • Good Morning Vietnam
  • Deja Vu

Books

  • His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman
  • Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
  • Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier
  • H for Hawk by Helen Macdonald
  • Frankenstein by Mary Shelley
  • The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
  • A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman (my book of the year along with A Year of Marvellous Ways by Sarah Winman). There is a storyline that could be triggering if it wasn't handled so well by Backman.
  • One of our Tweeters who runs a reading festival in Lewis loves books by AS Byatt, Hilary Mantel, Sarah Waters, Jeanette Winterson and these authors too:
  • Rumer Godden
  • Elizabeth Goudge
  • Pema Chodron
  • Tara Brach

I also found that Agatha Christie, Nicola Upson's Josephine Tey books enjoyable and we debated about Poldark (the 70s series and the current BBC adaption but we agreed it has triggers).

All new Twitter book chat @childesshour

Do you have any books or films you'd like to share? We are going to try out a book club and I'd love your suggestions! We will be reading one book a month and sharing our thoughts in a dedicated Twitter chat on the last Tuesday of each month. To take part, create a Twitter account and look up our hashtag #childlesshour or the account here to see what book we choose and join us when we talk about the books.
